Some college students take on these positions as internships to better their knowledge while they earn a degree. Assistant Project Manager
While the assistant project manager may sound like a glorified project coordinator, this job is actually much more specific than that. Assistant project managers are usually left to delegate the tasks of a certain sector of a project. One project manager may have several project assistants working under him or her, and then the project assistants may have several project coordinators working under them. The larger the project, the more assistants the manager will need. Project assistants must report to the project manager on a regular basis, as they are the ones that are responsible for any problems that may come up in their task sector. Those who succeed as project assistants can usually move up to project managers.
Project Scheduler
In some cases, project schedulers are called in to oversee the reporting processes for a project. These individuals do not do a lot of actual management as they are mainly in charge of running software and inputting information about a project. Most project schedulers are IT specialists, and they do not do much work outside of the technical side of a project. If you want to become an actual project manager, this may not be the job for you. An actual project manager is the person who is in charge of all the workers mentioned above. Senior project managers make substantially more money than other project managers, but they also have more responsibilities to take care of. If you want to work in the best position possible in this industry, being a senior project manager would certainly fit the bill.
